DEWA warns of fake emails on bill payment
DUBAI – The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) warned customers over fake emails asking them to make online payments for their utility consumption. “DEWA would like to bring to its customers’ attention that some customers received fraudulent emails claiming to be from Dewa and asking for bill payments,” according to DEWA. DEWA said this was a form of phishing email designed by hackers to “access your personal information, including your credit cards”. “Inspect the sender’s email address before you open it.. Do not click on links or open attachment from unknown emails,” DEWA advised. The authority also told customers to only make any payments through trusted channels. DEWA said it was working with authorities to stop email scammers from victimizing more people.
