  DUBAI – A new project costing a total of Dh1 billion will see the construction of new roads and bridges to improve the flow of traffic between Dubai and Sharjah. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the awarding of the contract. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a contract to improve a sector of Tripoli Street to connect Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) and Emirates Road extending approximately 12 kilometres with an estimated cost of Dh500 million. The new project will run parallel to and in support of a project to improve Airport Road currently being developed at a cost of Dh490 million, bringing the total cost of both projects to Dh1 billion. The project consists of widening Tripoli Street to the point where it intersects with Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road near Mirdif City Centre to Academic City Road, stretching for 6.5 kilometres. It also includes building a new road in the sandy area of the intersection with Academic City Road extending to Emirates Road, stretching for 5.3 kilometres with three lanes in each direction, thus raising the length of the sector to approximately 12 kilometres. The project will run parallel to Al Amardi-Al Khawaneej and Al Awir-Ras Al Khor. The project also comprises of improving the intersection of Tripoli and Algeria streets by constructing a tunnel with three lanes in each direction, serving traffic from Al Rabat Street to Tripoli Street. To improve the intersection between Tripoli Street and Nuakchott Street, the project comprises of building a bridge with three lanes in each direction. Flyovers will be constructed to improve the traffic flow at the intersection between Tripoli Street and Academic City Road. A bridge will be built to improve traffic flow from Tripoli Street and Emirates Road towards Sharjah.
