Shoe prints left at the scene of a Dh1 million robbery in Dubai was the clue that police needed to solve the crime and arrest the suspect. According to Dubai Police, it received a report from a company that it was robbed of Dh1 million from its safe. When investigators arrived at the scene, four of the company employees said they were held hostage by a gang of thieves who broke into their office and handcuffed them. One of the employees said he was asked to take the money from the safe and transfer it to the suspects’ bags. Investigators noticed shoe prints on the door that one of the perpetrators kicked to open. They also noticed that the plastic handcuffs used on the employees were cut with a pair of scissors, which could not be found near the discarded plastic handcuffs. The pair of scissors was later found hidden in one of the drawers. A forensic report revealed that the shoe prints on the door matched that of the employee who claimed that the robbers forced him to take the money from the safe. Confronted by evidence, he confessed to masterminding the crime, and convincing his colleagues to participate. He also alerted the police about the alleged robbery to divert suspicion from himself.
