Police in Sharjah have arrested a gang of 32 Arabs and Asians who attempted to smuggle illegal drugs estimated to be worth Dh14 million. The gang was arrested in an international operation called Kashf Al Sitar. Police did not say when the drug bust took place. Colonel Majid Al Asam, Director of Anti-narcotics Department at Sharjah Police, said police received a tip-off that the gang was bringing narcotics into the UAE via a neighbouring country. A special police force put the gang under surveillance and arrested them with the possession of 50kg of hashish and 49 litres of liquid crystal methamphetamine. Police also seized 1.17 million narcotic pills. Police said that the gang members rented a secret warehouse in a neighbouring emirate where they stored the illegal drugs. According to Sharjah Police, the gang exploited a customs clearance company to bring the illegal drugs into the country. They also used a vehicle where they hid the liquid crystal. ICA/Expat Media
