Up to Dh30,000 fine, driving licence suspension for causing accident at Dubai Tram crossing

  DUBAI – A new law issued on Monday has imposed bigger fines of up to Dh30,000 on motorists who cause accidents at the Dubai Tram crossing. The Executive Council Resolution issued on Monday was issued by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

Here is a list of offences and penalties

  • Causing a fatal accident at a tram crossing: three-year suspension of offender's driving licence and minimum fine of Dh15,000 and a maximum fine of Dh30,000
  • Causing non-fatal accident at tram crossing: Fine ranging from Dh5,000 to Dh15,000 with up to one-year suspension of driving licence
  • Jumping the red light at tram crossing: Fine between Dh2,000 and Dh5,000 and suspension of driving licence of up to three years
  • Jumping the red light at tram crossing without causing a traffic accident: Fine ranging from Dh2,000 to Dh5,000 and suspension of the driver's licence for 30 days up to three months
  • Jumping the red light at tram intersection and causing a fatal accident: From Dh15,000 to Dh30,000. Driving licence of the offender to be suspended for a period of one year to three years.
  • Throwing objects on tramway: Dh500
  • Committing any act that interferes with tram operation: Dh500
  • Affecting tram safety or damaging its infrastructure: Dh500
  • Unauthorised access into prohibited tram zone: Dh1,000
  • Obstructing tram movement: Dh3,000
