3 arrested after Dh300,000 watch heist in Dubai
Three African suspects were arrested in Dubai for a heist involving a luxury watch worth Dh300,000. According to Dubai Police, the watch was recovered and handed over to its owner following the arrest of the trio. Police did not give further details about their identity or nationality. Colonel Juma Al Muhairi, Deputy Director of Al Rafaa Police Station, said owner of the high-end watch store fell for the ruse after being given a fake bank fund transfer email. The victim, a Gulf citizen, said the incident started after he received a call from a person he met on social media who said he wanted to buy a watch from him. On the day the watch was going to be delivered in Dubai, the man called him to say he will be sending two of his African employees to collect the watch. To confirm his payment, he sent the watch store owner a fund transfer letter from the bank, which allowed the two Africans to collect the watch on his behalf. The victim would later find out that the email was fake. He reported the incident to Al Rafaa Police Station and an investigation was launched. Within 24 hours, police were able to identify and track three African suspects. Police also seized the stolen watch in their possession. The suspects are now facing legal action.
