The Sharjah Police has issued a fresh warning to pedestrians to only cross the road at designated areas or risk being fined Dh400. Under the UAE’s federal traffic law, jaywalking or crossing roads at undesignated areas will result in a fine of Dh400. Jaywalking is one of the causes of traffic deaths in the UAE. On July 6, new traffic law was implemented in Dubai, with fines of up to Dh100,000 to be imposed on motorists for serious traffic violations.
