As winter arrives and flu season approaches, UAE authorities have introduced an initiative to help protect the public. Residents in Dubai and the Northern Emirates can now receive a flu vaccine for just Dh50. This announcement was made during the UAE's national flu campaign, which began today, September 9, to ensure people are prepared before the flu season peaks.
The flu vaccines will be administered at 12 ambulatory health centres at Dubai Health. Expat residents can avail the vaccine for Dh50 while UAE nationals can receive it for free. Its efficacy typically lasts for around six to seven months. The Emirates Health Services (EHS) will also provide services for free high-risk groups such as pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, and People of Determination. This yearly campaign urges everyone to get the flu vaccine, including citizens, residents, government and private employees, and healthcare workers. It also focuses on people at higher risk, like the elderly, pregnant women, and those with long-term health issues. Flu season in the UAE usually starts in October, and this vaccination campaign aims to make winter safer. While the flu vaccine may not provide full immunity, it greatly reduces the severity of the illness if contracted. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with Emirates Health Services (EHS), Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH), and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
