Dh57.9 million worth of drugs hidden in fake lemons seized in Dubai

  DUBAI – More than one million narcotic pills hidden in fake lemons and worth Dh57.9 million have been seized in Dubai, according to Dubai Police. Police also arrested four Arab suspects for smuggling Captagon, a highly addictive amphetamine. Police did not disclose the suspects’ nationalities or identities. Police said the Captagon pills were hidden in plastic lemons that were mixed with a shipment of real lemons. Police were tipped off about the shipment and were able to track it down. When the shipment arrived in Dubai, police were able to track it as it was transported out of the port to an undisclosed location. “One of the suspects then locked himself inside the container for nearly two hours separating the fake lemons from the real ones,” said Brigadier Eid Hareb, Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department director. The police official said that the Captagon pills were hidden in 66 fake lemons mixed in 3,849 boxes of real lemons. According to police, Captagon smuggling attempts have increased this year, with police seizing the illegal drugs in 98 separate incidents between January and September. ICA/Expat Media
