A hotel room rate in Dubai’s Al Rigga made passersby do a double take this week after an electronic sign displayed a nightly rate of Dh6,750. The rate appeared on Tuesday evening (February 9) outside the hotel in Al Rigga, catching the attention of residents in the busy Deira district. “I was passing through the area when I spotted the electronic board at night. I was shocked when I saw the price because we just hosted a relative here for like 10 percent of this price, and he checked out that morning,” a resident told Expat Media. At first glance, some assumed it could be a typographical error. However, a room reservations representative confirmed that the rate was accurate for that night. “Yes, it was really Dh6,750 that time because there was an exhibition in Dubai and rooms were full,” the representative told Expat Media. The spike coincided with the World Health Expo, formerly known as Arab Health, at Dubai World Trade Centre from February 9 to 12. The annual medical trade exhibition attracts thousands of international delegates, exhibitors and healthcare professionals, significantly increasing hotel demand across the city. According to the reservations officer, demand was so strong that day that even at the elevated rate, rooms were booked. When asked whether guests actually booked rooms at that price, the officer confirmed: “Yes, around two to three people actually booked it that night because hotels were full across Dubai.” Dubai’s hospitality sector often sees room rates fluctuate sharply during major global events, especially when large exhibitions and conferences coincide with peak travel seasons.
