Sunken cargo ship recovered from Dubai Creek. Here's what they found
DUBAI - A cargo ship that sank in the Dubai Creek has been recovered, with Dubai Municipality workers collecting 16.3 tonnes of items from the sunken dhow boat.
Authorities said the cargo ship sank at the mouth of the Dubai Creek last Thursday after colliding with one of the wave breakers on its way out of Dubai.
The dhow boat had set out at dawn on Thursday to exit the Dubai Creek when it crashed and sank at the entrance of the creek, said Talib Julfar, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for Environment and Public Health Services Sector.
Julfar said a specialised marine emergency team was called in to stop the spread of goods in the water and to recover the sunken products "in record time". A sea barrier was also placed to prevent items from spreading or floating further in the creek.
“The team recovered goods fallen from the ship, mostly electrical appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, which are dangerous substances with their components on the marine environment if it is given up in water,” he said.
