Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor and fugitive Alice Guo, who is accused of allegedly having connections to Chinese criminal syndicates, was captured in Tangerang City in Jakarta, Indonesia, as confirmed by the Philippines' Department of Justice (DOJ) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Authorities reported that Guo was arrested just before midnight on Tuesday and is now in the custody of the Indonesian police at Jatanras Mabes Polri. NBI Director Jaime Santiago revealed that the NBI is working closely with its Indonesian counterpart to handle the required legal procedures. He also mentioned that Guo is expected to return to the Philippines by Thursday or Friday. Senator Risa Hontiveros in a press conference also said that the NBI pledged to hand over Guo to the Senate after immigration processing. Guo, also known by her Chinese name Guo Hua Ping, is wanted by the Philippine Senate for refusing to attend a congressional investigation into her connections to a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) hub that was raided in her town, Bamban, Tarlac. The raided POGO, allegedly built on a land she partially owned, was found to be connected to illegal activities such as human trafficking. The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) also alleged that Guo and her accomplices laundered over 100 million pesos (AED 6.5 milllion) from criminal activities. Furthermore, the Commission on Election discovered that the fingerprints on her election records matched those of a Chinese citizen. She has denied these accusations and insisted that she is a natural-born Filipino facing “malicious accusations”. After being cited in contempt for failing to attend Senate hearings, Guo allegedly fled the country in July using her Philippine passport. She travelled to Malaysia and Singapore before arriving in Indonesia in August, as confirmed by the Philippine anti-crime agency. FLE/Expat Media
