Dr. Anwar Gargash talks to the UN about empowering Emirati women

It is vital to empower women across all sectors and levels, says diplomatic adviser, Dr. Anwar Gargash, during his speech at the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. Gargash said that progress in human rights is achieved when Emirati women are empowered. Achieving gender equality and empowering rights for women is number five of the UN's 17 sustainable development goals. Emirati women have continuously shown their contribution to the success of the Emirates Mars Mission Team. Women make up a majority of the program's scientific team contributing to the success of space exploration, making UAE the fifth space agency to reach the red planet and mark the first interplanetary mission led by an Arab country. "A testament to the leading role of Emirati women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields, women comprise 80 percent of the Emirates Mars Mission science team," Dr. Gargash said.
