Warriors' star player says he did nothing wrong except pay a noise violations fine

  LOS ANGELES – Golden State Warriors' star player Draymond Green has been slapped with a civil lawsuit filed by former Michigan State footballer Jermaine Edmondson and his girlfriend, Bianca Williams, for alleged physical assault and bullying. The lawsuit stemmed from an altercation between Green and Edmondson in a restaurant in East Lansing, Michigan on July 9 last year. Green allegedly struck Edmondson in the face. Edmondson and Williams announced the filing of the lawsuit in a press conference on Tuesday. Green's PR firm released a statement regarding the lawsuit saying: "This lawsuit relates to an incident that occurred in East Lansing, Michigan, over a year ago, for which Draymond paid a noise violation fine. Draymond looks forward to defending himself and clearing up the misinformation put forth today (Tuesday)." At the press conference last Tuesday, Edmondson said, "I think about what happened with Draymond every day. I still feel his hand on my jaw. There are nights where I wake up crying." Lawyer Lisa Bloom, who represents Edmondson and Williams, said her clients will welcome "whatever a jury feels is the appropriate amount to compensate" them in relation to the lawsuit. Edmondson and Williams said that Green, a former star at Michigan State, allegedly demeaned and bullied Edmondson at a bar in East Lansing, Michigan on July 9, 2016 and then two of Green's companions allegedly pushed Edmondson against a wall and choked him. Williams said when she tried to intervene, one of the two men grabbed her by the neck and also choked her. "I still feel that man's hand around my neck and it will forever be traumatizing," Williams said. The following night, Edmondson and Williams said they encountered Green again in a different establishment where the alleged physical assault happened. Green was apprehended for allegedly slapping Edmondson and faced a US$500 fine and a 90-day jail term if found guilty. Green was later released on a US$200 bond and didn't appear in court. Green submitted a plea, which reduced the charges from misdemeanor assault to a noise violation and civil infraction. The offenses carried a US$500 fine and US$60 in jail restitution. Green paid the fines to avoid jail time.
