Dubai Police successfully rescued a driver who lost control of the car when its cruise control stopped working. The authorities said the driver called the emergency number for urgent help after realising they could not control the car anymore. Dubai Police traffic patrol arrived within minutes and secured the area around the vehicle. Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, acting assistant commandant for operations affairs, said, "The traffic patrols immediately dispatched to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and spotted the vehicle past the Expo Bridge." Providing more details about the incident, he said, "Given the vehicle's immense danger on the high-speed road, the patrols quickly secured the area around it and activated warning signs for other motorists. They then worked to reassure the visibly distressed driver. One of the patrols then positioned in front of the vehicle and began gradually bringing it to a stop while the other patrols secured the lane behind it." When such malfunctions occur, he advised motorists to stay calm and avoid panicking. Drivers should fasten their seatbelts, turn on hazard lights and headlights, and call 999 right away to report the emergency. In these situations, Al Mazrouei suggested shifting the transmission to neutral (N), turning off the engine, and then restarting it. If that does not fix the issue, he advised applying firm, steady pressure on the brakes until the vehicle comes to a complete stop. If that does not work, the driver should slowly release the handbrake while keeping a firm grip on the steering wheel. If those steps still fail, the driver should try shifting the transmission between neutral (N) and drive (D) to regain control. If any of these methods are successful before the traffic patrol arrives, the driver should safely move the vehicle off the road. FLE/Expat Media
