A driver speeding on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) at 220kmph was arrested by Dubai Police. The incident occurred during the night, with the driver filming and posting a video of the dangerous act online, Dubai Police confirmed on Friday (September 20). According to the authority, the driver was fined Dh50,000, and the vehicle was also impounded. The case has also been handed over to the public prosecution for further legal action. The speed limit on the E311 is 110kph, with drivers allowed to go up to 20kph over without being fined. The video showed the speedometer reaching 220km/h as the motorist sped along the busy highway. Dubai Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards reckless driving, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated. In line with the stringent traffic rules, the driver faces severe penalties. To retrieve the impounded vehicle, the driver will be required to pay a Dh50,000 fine. Additionally, distracted driving, such as using a mobile phone while behind the wheel, can incur a fine of Dh800 and four black points on the driver’s record. FLE/Expat Media
