Driverless taxis to have trial run in UAE this year

  DUBAI – The first fleet of driverless taxis will have a trial run in Abu Dhabi this year, the Abu Dhabi Media Office announced on Tuesday (March 23). Rides on the driverless taxis will be free of cost during the trial period, and will be available from 8am to 8pm. Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Centre has partnered with Bayanat to run trial operations of driverless vehicles in Abu Dhabi starting the fourth quarter of 2021. During the trial period, a safety officer will be present in the vehicle in case of any issues. The first of the driverless taxis will have their trial run on Yas Island, with three vehicles providing free services from hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and offices in Yas Mall. The second stage of the trial run will involve more than 10 driverless vehicles deployed in more areas of Abu Dhabi. ICA/Expat Media
