Smart app allows reporting of mishaps

DUBAI – Dubai Police has urged drivers to use a smart application to report minor accidents on the road without waiting for police patrols to arrive at the scene. This after the police said at least 20 minor accidents are reported every hour, causing a gridlock in traffic flow and delays to other motorists. Dubai Police Smart Services Department director Brig. Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi said drivers can use the smart app to report minor accidents in just three minutes. The online service called 'Report Minor Accident' is found in the police's smart application and is in Arabic and English languages. "The drivers who use the app don't need to wait for police patrols and block traffic. It is an easy and simple way to report accidents. It reduces time and motorists receive the police report via email and it can then be presented to insurers," said Al Razooqi. According to reports, in case of a minor accident (one that involves two to five vehicles), drivers can send the accident report right away and the police will check the data after which the police will issue a report in 15 minutes. A copy of the accident report will be sent to the email accounts of each driver and of the insurance companies. The information that needs to be entered in the accident report are: plate and license numbers, photos of damage, email addresses and other details to help police officers understand what happened. The app also sends the exact location of the accident and identifies the nearest police station, which will issue the accident report. Meanwhile, Al Razooqi said if the parties involved in the accident fail to agree on who is at fault, each party can file an accident report from his or her smartphone and the police officers will look at both reports to determine who is liable. If the officers need more details about the accident, they will call the drivers involved.
