RTA warns against risks of driving while drowsy, exhausted in Ramadan
DUBAI - Driving while feeling exhausted or drowsy is one of the top killers on the roads, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said.
The RTA said exhaustion and drowsiness are listed among the most serious factors leading to traffic accidents, particularly during Ramadan when the concentration rate of some motorists drops due to body changes.
“The variation of sleeping and working times during Ramadan may affect the concentration of fasting motorists, which warrants extra care and caution while driving from the workplace and back home in order to avoid traffic accidents," said Maitha Bin Adai, CEO،of the Traffic And Roads Agency at RTA.
"Motorists have to be aware of driving-associated risks when they don’t feel in good health or sound mental condition as the lack of concentration, fatigue or exhaustion raises the potentials of triggering traffic accidents," she said.
She called on drivers of light and heavy vehicles to take sufficient rest before driving, and park once they feel exhausted or drowsy.
A short rest would help the driver complete the journey safely, she said. She also called on motorists to park on the roadside when they hear the call for Maghreb prayer, and take a light breakfast, before resuming their journey.
