The drones you may have seen hovering around Dubai lately are confirmed to be part of Dubai Police's "Drone Box" system in their efforts to improve security and emergency response across the emirate. These drones, noticeable by their blue marks, support police officers in immediately reaching accident sites and provide the command centre with the necessary data and information to speed up response time. Brigadier Turki bin Faris, Director of the General Department of Operations at Dubai Police, explained: "The 'Drone Box' system is equipped with numerous smart platforms across the emirate. These drones are deployed from the platforms upon receiving reports, significantly reducing response times for severe accidents and emergencies." The drones assist various security and police operations such as participation in field operations for security and traffic patrols across Dubai, managing rescue missions, crises, and disasters, detecting risks, and monitoring traffic flow. "Dubai Police remains at the forefront of innovation with our smart and advanced drone system, supporting police and security operations. This strategic project employs the latest security technologies to proactively ensure community safety and combat crime," Brigadier Turki said. Dubai Police is among the first police agencies in the world to utilize a smart and advanced drone system for police operations. In 2020, the police force began using drones to reinforce precautionary measures against Covid-19. The Dubai Police's Ports Police Station used drone patrols to secure public beaches and activities in their jurisdiction, saying that the drones were "equipped with cameras that can photograph events in range, whether during the day or night. They can also carry loudspeakers to broadcast Dubai Police messages and announcements to the public." FLE/Expat Media
