‘Drug lord’ Kerwin Espinosa arrested in Abu Dhabi

  DUBAI – Alleged drug lord Roland “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr. has been arrested in Abu Dhabi after he was spotted by Filipino residents, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa announced on Monday (October 17). Espinosa, son of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Ronaldo Espinosa Sr., was arrested in the emirate on Monday morning in a joint operation by the PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group and Abu Dhabi police, Dela Rosa said at a press conference in Camp Crame. “Just this morning around 2 a.m., our team from AIDG led by Senior Superintendent (Albert) Ferro in coordination with criminal investigation division of the Abu Dhabi police arrested the drug lord Kerwin Espinosa,” Dela Rosa said. Dela Rosa said that Espinosa is now under the custody of Abu Dhabi Police and that the PNP is working to extradite him to the Philippines on Tuesday. Abu Dhabi Police could not be immediately reached for comment. Dela Rosa said that the PNP received a tip from Filipino workers in Abu Dhabi who spotted the suspect living near their building. He sent a three-man team to arrest the suspect, Dela Rosa said. “Mayroong nag-tip sa atin. Mayroong tumawag na mga OFW doon sa Abu Dhabi at nagsasabi na nandyan malapit sa building nila nakatira si Kerwin kaya nag-dispatch agad ako ng three-man team (We received a call from in Abu Dhabi who said that Kerwin was living near their building, so I immediately dispatched a three-man team),” he said. Dela Rosa said that his team is working to expedite Espinosa’s travel to the Philippines. “Kung matapos nila ‘yung documentary requirements today baka bukas pwede sila bumiyahe. If not, depende sa first available flight right after the suspect is cleared to travel to the Philippines (If they finish documentary requirements today, maybe they might be able to travel tomorrow. If not, it depends on when they can take the first available flight right after the suspect is cleared to travel to the Philippines,” he said. Espinosa is facing a criminal complaint filed by Leyte police for alleged involvement in a drug syndicate.
