Drugs in vape? Dubai Police raise alarm

DUBAI - Drug peddlers have found a new way of geting the banned substances in the UAE through e-cigarettes, according to the Dubai Police. Although e-cigarettes have been banned in the UAE, there have been 17 reported incidents of the electronic smoking device being laced with drugs, according to the Dubai Police. Experts from Forensic Science and Criminology Department of Dubai Police said they studied samples of e-cigarettes and found several containing various drugs like Spice and hashish oil. “We recorded 17 incidents of misusing e-cigarettes since 2016, including 14 incidents of using hashish oil. With more people using e-cigarettes, we found out some of them are using drugs in vaping,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Khalid Al Sumaiti. Al Sumaiti said that the e-cigarette has become "a tool to consume drugs and it is more dangerous than normal cigarettes”. He said that despite a ban on e-cigarettes in the UAE, it is still being sold in some shops and online. He called for stricter measures to enforce the ban on selling and using e-cigarettes in the country.
