A Dubai court has convicted an Arab woman of drunk driving after a deadly crash in Al Qudra that killed a pedestrian and left two others injured. The Dubai Misdemeanours Court fined her Dh10,000 and ordered her to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the victim’s family. Police said the woman lost control of her car while under the influence of alcohol, colliding with several vehicles before striking three pedestrians. One man died from his injuries while two others were hospitalized with varying levels of trauma. Medical reports confirmed that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash, which she admitted during police questioning. She claimed she panicked after seeing pedestrians “standing in the middle of the road,” though the court found her negligence and impairment were the main cause of the fatal incident. However, the judgment noted that the pedestrians also bore some responsibility, as they were not using a designated crossing, putting themselves and others at risk. The court ordered the woman to compensate the victim’s family in line with UAE’s blood money laws and held her liable for damage to the vehicles involved.
