The 1 Billion Followers Summit has unveiled the names of 10 shortlisted content creators vying for the $1 million prize recognized as the world’s largest award for content creators. The announcement marks a significant milestone in celebrating creativity and the positive societal impact of digital content. The candidates were selected from a remarkable pool of over 16,000 submissions from 190 countries. Each entry resonated with the Award’s mission to inspire minds, bring nations closer together, and uphold values of compassion and empathy. Public voting for the shortlisted nominees is now open until December 28 on vote.1billionsummit.com, with the final winner to be announced on January 13. The Award aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, who envisions the UAE as a global hub for nurturing digital talent and fostering innovation.

Meet the 10 shortlisted candidates

1. Dr. Adanna Steinacker (Nigeria): A former medical doctor turned social media influencer, Dr. Adanna educates millions on women’s health and well-being through her engaging YouTube channel, House of Adanna. With over 1 million followers, her content empowers women globally. 2. Nirmal Purja (UK): A Nepalese-born mountaineer with 2.2 million followers, Purja achieved the first winter ascent of K2 and climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in just seven months. His foundation, Nimsdai, supports Himalayan communities and environmental conservation. 3. Simon Squibb (UK): Entrepreneur and inspirational speaker Simon Squibb shares his journey to motivate future leaders. With a massive online following of 9 million, he actively supports social enterprises addressing pressing global challenges. 4. Charlie Rocket (USA): Overcoming obesity, depression, and a brain tumor, Charlie inspires his 10 million followers through his ‘Dream Machine’ Foundation, which celebrates acts of kindness and stories of resilience. 5. Samuel Weidenhofer (Australia): Known for his heartwarming videos, Samuel spreads positivity through surprise acts of kindness. His content, followed by over 10 million users, highlights the power of compassion. 6. Ahmed AbuZaid (Egypt): The creator of Droos Online, Ahmed educates his 11 million followers on practical skills like video editing, time management, and self-improvement through his interactive and passionate approach. 7. Nasser Al-Oqail (Saudi Arabia): Through Dupamicaffeine Sciences, Nasser simplifies complex books into actionable insights for his 9 million followers, fostering a love for knowledge and self-development. 8. Osratouna TV (Algeria/UK): Founded by Abderrazak Bennadji, Osratouna TV promotes Arabic culture among children with songs and stories, amassing an impressive 17 million followers. 9. Creators For Lebanon (Lebanon): This group of four content creators provides aid to displaced families and inspires solidarity, earning them over 40 million followers. Their work showcases the power of collective action during crises. 10. Mahmoud Zuaiter (Palestine): Despite Gaza’s challenges, Mahmoud creates uplifting content to spread hope and highlight humanitarian issues. His inspiring posts resonate with 3 million followers.

Voting and final selection

The public can cast their votes for their favorite creators until December 28, with the five highest-voted candidates moving to the final selection stage. An international panel of judges will then deliberate in closed sessions on January 11 and 13 before announcing the winner. ICA/Expat Media
