Two new major bridges in Dubai were opened as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project. RTA

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened two major bridges on Sunday (September 15), as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project. According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director-general and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, the project is expected to cut travel time by up to 70 percent. The first bridge, which measures 601 metres, features two lanes and can accommodate up to 3,200 vehicles per hour. It connects Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, then continues north toward Al Qusais and Deira. This bridge will reduce travel time by 40 percent and will cut the peak-hour journey from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes. The second bridge, spanning 664 meters, also features two lanes and supports 3,200 vehicles per hour. It helps reduce traffic by directing vehicles traveling south from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. This bridge is expected to reduce travel time by 70 percent, making the travel time 7 minutes instead of 21 minutes. The third and final bridge in this project is expected to open in October, linking Garn Al Sabkha Street with Al Asayel Street. It extends 943 meters, with two lanes in each direction, and can handle 8,000 vehicles per hour. It is expected to improve traffic flow between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. The project will also improve a 7 kilometre stretch of intersections on the service road next to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
