The UAE welcomed 2014 with spectacular fireworks displays in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. In Dubai, the Burj Khalifa illuminated in a light and LED show followed by fireworks in a New Year show that lasted nearly 12 minutes in total. The show began with the world’s tallest tower showing the UAE flag and photos of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, followed by the flags of the GCC countries Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar. The LED and light show was then followed by a fireworks display.

Elsewhere in Dubai, fireworks also illuminated 31 other locations, including Burj Al Arab, Bluewaters and Global Village, which ushered in 2024 with seven fireworks shows that began at 10am. In Ras Al Khaimah, an 8-minute fireworks show and drone show wowed spectators on the waterfront extending between Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra Village. The event set two new Guinness World Records for "Longest chain of aquatic floating fireworks" and the "Longest straight-line drone display". In Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Festival aimed for four Guinness World Records with a fireworks show that lasted approximately 40 minutes that was preceded by a drones show featuring 5,000 drones in Al Wathba. Organisers said the fireworks and drones show broke records for the tallest pyrotechnics structure, the most repeated firework image formations in one minute, “the most candles on a fan structure” and largest aerial logo formed by drones. Fireworks also lit up 10 other sites, including Abu Dhabi Corniche, Al Maryah Island - The Galleria, Yas Bay Waterfront, Al Hudayriat Island, the public park in Madinat Zayed in Al Dhafra, Ghayathi behind the Tam Center, Liwa International festival and Al Mughira Beach in the harbor. Fireworks also lit up the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain. ICA/Epxat Media
