A Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an African man to three months in prison for his role in an attempted theft of an electric scooter. In its verdict this week, the court also ordered the man's deportation after he serves his prison sentence for attempted theft. There were no further details on the man's nationality. The incident occurred in Al Satwa in April 2023, where the scooter owner heard suspicious noises outside his home. Upon investigation, he saw two men attempting to cut the lock of his scooter with iron scissors. The owner shouted for help, prompting one suspect to flee into the building, where he was caught by residents and handed over to police. The other escaped. During interrogation, the arrested man denied any intent to steal, claiming his fugitive accomplice coerced him into the act. "He asked me to help him steal bicycles and scooters, but I refused," he said. Despite this, the court found him guilty. Authorities continue their search for his accomplice, who remains at large.
