A Dubai court has sentenced an African man to one month in jail, a fine of Dh4,000, and deportation after he was caught illegally selling alcohol from his vehicle in the Al Rashidiya area. The Misdemeanors and Violations Court also found the man guilty of overstaying his visa, as he had entered the UAE on a visit visa in 2019 and had been living illegally in Dubai ever since. The case dates back to December 2023 when a Dubai police officer grew suspicious of the man while he was driving in Al Rashidiya. Upon stopping the vehicle and requesting identification, the suspect admitted that he did not have an ID and had overstayed his visa. Further interrogation revealed that the vehicle belonged to a compatriot who had rented it out to him for the purpose of selling alcohol. The suspect admitted to purchasing liquor from another emirate and transporting it to Dubai, where he sold bottles for Dh30 each. He also revealed that he shared the profits with an accomplice who helped him acquire the alcohol. Following the investigation, the court ruled that the man had violated UAE liquor and residency laws. In addition to his one-month jail sentence and Dh4,000 fine, he will be deported upon completing his sentence. ICA/Expat Media
