Dubai is reshaping its coastline with the Dh500 million Al Mamzar Beaches project, a major development designed to create a new family-friendly destination. During a recent visit, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured the project, which spans four million square feet and is expected to welcome up to seven million visitors annually. “As part of our vision to transform Dubai into the world’s best city to live in by 2040, we recently approved the Dh3 billion Dubai Beaches development plan aimed at increasing beach capacity for tourists and visitors by 170 percent,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

Beach experience reimagined

The project blends leisure, nature, and smart infrastructure, with 35 facilities including walking tracks, cycling paths, gyms, and water sports zones. Here’s a closer look at the key zones and standout features visitors can expect once the project opens: Al Mamzar Beach Park This well-known beach destination is being upgraded and better connected to surrounding areas. It will serve as the heart of the development, offering green spaces, picnic areas, and family-friendly facilities. Expect improved access, enhanced amenities, and seamless links to nearby lagoon and corniche areas, creating a more integrated beach experience. Al Mamzar Lagoon Beach Spanning 2.75 million square feet, this zone will focus on active leisure and family activities. Key features include: • A 300-metre night swimming beach, allowing visitors to enjoy the water after sunset • Children’s play areas and outdoor gyms • Water sports zones and jet ski docks • Shaded beachfront spaces for relaxation One of its most unique attractions is a floating walkway across the lagoon, described as the first of its kind in the region, offering a scenic and interactive experience over the water. Al Mamzar Corniche Designed for a more relaxed and premium experience, the corniche will cater to visitors seeking privacy and scenic views. Highlights include: • A dedicated women-only beach with full privacy, including what officials describe as the world’s first 24/7 women-only beach with night swimming • Sports and fitness facilities • Art walkways and landscaped promenades • Seasonal event spaces and leisure zones This area is expected to attract both residents and tourists looking for a quieter, more exclusive beachfront setting. Dining and lifestyle features The development will also include a waterfront restaurant and a variety of cafés and retail outlets, adding to its appeal as a full-day destination.

Built for community and sustainability

The development is designed with accessibility in mind, including facilities for People of Determination, and aims to support healthy lifestyles and social connection. It also aligns with Dubai’s environmental goals. Around 350,000 cubic metres of sand were used in land reclamation to strengthen coastal resilience and protect beachgoers. Officials said the project will boost service capacity by 500 percent and create more than 65 investment opportunities across retail, dining, and recreation. Dubai Municipality is integrating artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies to improve safety and services, including faster response systems and enhanced monitoring. Dubai Municipality Director General Marwan bin Ghalita said the project will redefine beach destinations in the city.“We are committed to developing high-quality beach destinations that enhance quality of life, strengthen Dubai’s appeal, and reinforce its position as a global hub for beach tourism,” he said.
