Dubai Police has shut down 91 apartments in Dubai that were used as illegal massage centers, according to a top police official. Major General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf said Dubai Police launched several raids across Dubai to crack down on the illegal activity. Al Jallaf said that police also tracked down operators of such illegal businesses and arrested distributors of massage cards who place them on windshields and car windows. The business cards usually have photos of scantily clothed women. Police have repeatedly warned the public against seeking the services of illegal massage centres, saying these pose “serious threats, including extortion and murder”. There have been several reports in recent years of victims being lured into apartments and then attacked by gang members who extort money from them. Many are blackmailed with indecent photos of themselves taken onsite. Police urged the public to call 901 or use the Dubai Police app to report illegal massage centers and their promotors.
