Dubai’s vision for futuristic urban mobility is taking flight, as the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) approves the design for the city’s first commercial vertiport near Dubai International Airport (DXB). Known as DXV, the vertiport will serve as the hub for flying taxis, with operations set to begin in 2026. Developed by Skyports Infrastructure in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Joby Aviation, DXV is part of a network of four initial sites. “This marks a pivotal step in our journey toward integrating air taxis into Dubai’s urban fabric,” said Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA. The approval followed a comprehensive review of technical designs, including airspace considerations, layout, and safety measures. Skyports CEO Duncan Walker emphasized the transformative potential of the project. “This milestone brings us closer to redefining urban travel, offering a safe and scalable model for global adoption,” he said. The vertiport will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including rescue and firefighting services tailored for both battery-powered and traditional fuel vehicles.
