Illegal street racers and reckless drivers in Dubai’s residential areas have been arrested in a recent crackdown in the emirate. According to Dubai Police, a total of 33 vehicles used in reckless driving and illegal street racing have been seized in three areas recently. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the arrests were made after residents reported reckless drivers. The police official said the incidents happened on Jumeirah Beach Road, First Al Khail Road and Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road. Al Mazroui said the errant motorists were “ignorant of the deadly consequences of drifting and racing in unauthorised places”. He said that traffic patrolmen have been instructed to take a “zero-tolerance approach” to reckless drivers, illegal stunt drivers and illegal street racers.
