An Asian traveler is now in jail after he was caught bringing 4kg of marijuana in his luggage at the Dubai International Airport. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him to life in jail, which is equivalent to more than 15 years in prison. He was also fined Dh500,000 and will be deported after serving his jail term. The case dates back to January 22 when the Asian man was flagged by a Dubai Customs inspector for suspicious frozen and dried food items he packed in his luggage. Authorities said the Asian traveler had arrived in Dubai from his home country. When asked about the contents of his luggage, the man reportedly denied bringing any banned items. Upon inspection, 4kg of marijuana “hidden in a professional manner” was found stuffed inside packages of frozen meat and dried food items in his luggage. When confronted with the evidence, the man denied knowing the illegal contents in his luggage, and claimed he was only trying to help bring the food for a person living in Dubai.
