Dubai teachers found guilty of serious misconduct — including child abuse, criminal convictions, or inappropriate social media use — will now face permanent bans under new rules issued by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The Staff Deregistration Technical Guide, released this week, sets out clear procedures for removing teachers and school leaders who violate professional and ethical standards. Once deregistered, the individual is barred from working at any KHDA-regulated private school, early childhood centre, vocational institute, or university in Dubai. “By reinforcing clear expectations for recruitment, conduct, and accountability, the guides support school leaders, protect student well-being, and strengthen Dubai’s position as a global destination for exceptional education and talent,” said Dr Amna Almaazmi, CEO of Growth and Human Development at KHDA. Violations that could trigger deregistration include: • Criminal convictions and child protection breaches. • Gross professional misconduct. • Repeated unprofessional behaviour, including dishonesty, culturally insensitive actions, or inappropriate social media use. The new measures are part of Dubai’s Education 33 (E33) Strategy, which places student well-being and quality education at the forefront of its goals. KHDA said schools are also required to provide ongoing training in ethics, safeguarding, and conduct to ensure safe and inclusive classrooms.
