Dubai residents must avoid barbecuing or using shisha on their balconies as these activities can now result in fines of up to Dh2,000. According to the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA), these rules are part of new community guidelines aimed at enhancing safety in residential buildings across the city. RERA has displayed copies of these guidelines, seen by Expat Media, in various residential buildings to remind residents of the rules. The regulations, which apply to both high-rise and low-rise residential buildings, classify barbecuing, using shisha, or storing gas cylinders on balconies as significant fire hazards. The fine of Dh2,000 is intended to deter residents from engaging in activities that could pose risks to their neighbors and compromise building safety. The guidelines emphasize that balconies are often overlooked in terms of fire safety, but activities like cooking or smoking shisha can easily escalate into dangerous situations. Moreover, the smoke generated from such activities can be a nuisance to others, especially in densely populated buildings.
