Dubai Police has arrested 127 beggars and confiscated more than Dh50,000 as part of their annual anti-begging campaign during the first half of Ramadan. The “Fight Begging” campaign aims to combat illegal begging, which authorities say damages the country’s reputation and is often linked to other crimes such as pickpocketing and fraud. “Begging threatens society’s security, distorts the country’s image, and is sometimes used as a front for organized crime,” said Colonel Ahmed Al Adidi, Deputy Director of the Suspects and Criminal Phenomena Department. Captain Abdullah Khamis, head of the Anti-Begging Section, urged residents not to give money directly to beggars. He advised donating to official charities to ensure aid reaches those in genuine need. Residents can report beggars to Dubai Police by calling 901, using the "Police Eye" feature on the Dubai Police app, or visiting the E-Crime website. ICA/Expat Media
