Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced plans to build two bridges and expand Al Safa Street in a major move to decongest traffic around the City Walk area. The project will widen Al Safa Street from three to four lanes, reducing travel time from 12 minutes to just three minutes. It will also introduce pedestrian pathways and improved access between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Street across a 1.5km stretch. Two bridges will be constructed: One for traffic from Al Wasl Street to Sheikh Zayed Road and Financial Centre Street, and another for vehicles from Al Satwa Road to the same destinations. Combined with tunnel expansions, the project will double the road’s capacity to 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. “The project serves a vital district renowned for hosting tourism, cultural, and sporting events,” according to the RTA, citing key landmarks like City Walk and Coca-Cola Arena. Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General, noted the improvement will also enhance connectivity to Downtown Dubai and benefit over one million residents in the area. The upgrade is part of a broader plan to enhance traffic at 40 sites this summer, including work on 22 streets, 9 school zones, and several high-traffic development areas. ICA/Expat Media
