Dubai's Al Ras building fire: Pakistani victims identified

Three Pakistanis who died in a building fire in Dubai’s Al Ras area have been identified, authorities said. The three Pakistanis were among 16 people killed in the blaze on Saturday afternoon (April 15). According to the Pakistan Consulate, the three victims were relatives living in the same building. Pakistani Consul General Hassan Afzal Khan said the men hailed from Pakistan’s Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Two of the victims were married. The consul general said that the consulate is in touch with the victims’ families. The victims’ bodies are expected to be repatriated this week. On Saturday, a fire broke out on the fourth floor of a residential building in Al Ras. Among the 16 people killed were four Indians, four Sudanese and a Cameroon national. Two of the Indians who died in the blaze had rushed back into the burning building to help trapped residents escape, according to reports. Preliminary investigations showed that the fire was caused by a “lack of compliance with building security and safety requirements”.
