Businessman pays Dh100,000 to free inmates in debt

  DUBAI - A Dubai businessman has paid Dh100,000 to free inmates who have debts, the second person to do so this year after a Pakistani cricket star paid to settle the debts of 25 Pakistani prisoners. Businessman Yaqoob Al Ali received praise for his gesture which gave inmates “a chance to start a new life”. The businessman wants to bring joy to the prisoners during the Year of Giving, said Brigadier Dr Mohammad Al Murr, Director-General of the General Directorate of Human Rights at Dubai Police. “We thank the businessman for his noble gesture as he has given the prisoners a chance to start a new life,” Al Murr said. Pakistani cricket player Shahid Afridi paid Dh80,000 for the release of 25 Pakistani prisoners with unsettled debts.
