The Offline Club will hold its first Dubai edition offline meetup on Sunday (September 22). THE OFFLINE CLUB DUBAI

A café in Jumeirah will host its first phone-free meetup this Sunday (September 22), encouraging visitors to disconnect from their phones and engage with others in a tech-free environment. Conceptualised by The Offline Club from The Netherlands, this digital detox activity will be held at Seva Cafe to grow this offline community movement in Dubai. Upon entering the café, visitors will hand over their phones, which will be returned only at the end of the event. They are free to read a book, paint, write, engage in other activities they enjoy, or simply start a conversation with a stranger. The first part of the meetup will allow time for solo activities and will be followed by an interactive social session and a sound healing experience in the café's garden. In this digital era, where the constant consumption of digital content can sometimes feel overwhelming, this activity will provide a much-needed refuge for people to take a break from the virtual world. The Offline Club was co- founded by Ilya Kneppelhout, Valentijn Klok, and Jordy van Bennekom in February 2024 in a cafe at Amsterdam, with the aim to inspire people to unplug from digital devices and reconnect with their selves, others, and the world. Besides The Netherlands and Dubai, the offline movement has also spread to London, Aarhus, Milan, Paris, and Barcelona. The offline event on Sunday will be the first Dubai edition of the Offline Club. FLE/Expat Media
