Dubai Christmas Day car crash kills 2 Indian students

DUBAI – Two Indian students on vacation in Dubai died in a car crash in Jebel Ali on the early hours of Christmas Day, police said. Sharat Kumar, 21, was driving a Mercedes car and was dropping home Rohit Krishnakumar, 19, when their car crashed in The Gardens residential community at around 3am. Kumar is suspected of having confused the accelerator for the brake, causing his car to crash into a tree. Police believe that the driver was speeding. “The driver lost control over the wheel and hit a pavement before the car crashed into a tree and both (driver and passenger) died on the spot,” a police official said. Kumar’s remains are expected to be flown to Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday evening, while Krishnakumar’s remains will be flown to Kochi on Friday. Kumar and Krishnakumar were former students of DPS Dubai and were studying higher education abroad. The friends had reunited in Dubai for the winter break. Kumar was studying in Boston University in the US and Krishnakumar went to the University of Manchester in the UK. Sources said that the duo had gone out for dinner and had met with friends in Dubai before the fatal car crash on their way home.
