Dubai circus shut down following backlash over lions

DUBAI – Property developer Meraas has shut down a controversial circus in Dubai after it refused to remove lions from its show. The Latino Circus, which features “four white lions from Africa”, received heavy criticism for using wild animals at its show in Last Exit in Dubai’s Al Khawaneej area. Earlier this week, Last Exit asked the circus operator to remove the animal acts from the show following backlash on social media about the use of the wild and extremely rare animals. It appeared that The Latino Circus refused to remove the animals from its show, with circus lion tamer Casey McCoy Cainan posting on Facebook that the circus had no plans to carry out the request. Meraas, which runs Last Exit, intervened and ordered the shutdown of the traveling circus “until further notice”. “The animal acts in the circus at Last Exit Al Khawaneej have upset some members of our community. We care about and share their sentiments and as a result we have closed the circus temporarily until further notice,” Meraas said in a statement to the People for the Protection of Animals, a group that took to social media to protest the circus.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
