Dubai closer to self-driving taxi rollout after completing Jumeirah street mapping

Dubai could soon see self-driving taxis rolled out in Jumeirah after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently completed digital mapping of the area. Earlier this month, the RTA carried out road tests of self-driving taxis on the streets of Jumeirah 1. Dubai is poised to become the first city outside the US to commercially deploy self-driving taxis. US-based company Cruise is working with the RTA to introduce the first autonomous taxi ride, with plans to roll out 4,000 vehicles by 2030. RTA also endorsed a plan to replace all taxis in Dubai into hybrid, electric or hydrogen-powered taxis by 2027. Dubai aims to have zero emissions of public transport by 2050. ICA/Expat Media
