Dubai has completed upgrading eight marine transport stations to align with the Dubai Universal Design Code, reinforcing its commitment to becoming a city friendly to People of Determination. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the milestone as part of its broader strategy to create an inclusive urban environment. “These enhancements ensure that all community members, especially People of Determination, can access and benefit from our services,” said Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at RTA’s Public Transport Agency. The upgrades include improved infrastructure such as handrails, enhanced flooring with safety markings, and better lighting for nighttime use. Additionally, audio systems like loudspeakers have been installed to assist individuals with hearing challenges. “The project integrates connectivity between facilities, docks, and open spaces, ensuring independent and safe mobility for all,” Al Zarooni added. The upgrades reflect Dubai’s vision of inclusivity and innovation, creating seamless experiences for its diverse population. In line with Dubai’s government strategy, the project underscores the city’s commitment to sustainable and accessible public transport. The upgraded stations comply with maritime standards while ensuring functionality for People of Determination. The RTA plans to continue enhancing its services across other modes of transport, emphasizing the importance of universal design principles.
