The Dubai Public Prosecution has warned the public that using social media to insult or settle scores can lead to criminal charges. This reminder follows a case involving Louay and Maram, a separated couple with a nine-year-old son, Marwan.

Maram, who says she alone supports Marwan’s education and living expenses, reacted when she saw her ex-husband added to Marwan's school WhatsApp group. In frustration, she posted personal details about their divorce to the group, seen by several parents and teachers, before leaving the chat. Louay then filed a complaint, alleging that Maram’s post invaded his privacy and caused him distress. The Public Prosecution investigated and has now referred Maram to the Misdemeanour Court for breaching privacy laws. The Prosecution warned that the misuse of social media can have serious legal consequences and urged people to resolve conflicts privately. FLE/Expat Media
