A Dubai court sentenced an Asian man to one year in jail for impersonating a policeman and stealing Dh39,900 from a European woman through a fraudulent scheme. The suspect, along with a fugitive accomplice, contacted the victim, claiming to be from the Financial Investigations Department. Posing as a police official, he requested personal details under the guise of verifying her bank records. The woman reluctantly shared her bank information, including an OTP code, after the suspect sent a fake police ID. Shortly after, Dh39,900 was transferred from her account. Upon realizing the fraud, the victim contacted authorities. Dubai Police arrested the suspect, who admitted to collaborating with an accomplice to forge accounts. Authorities fined the man Dh39,900 and ordered his deportation post-sentence. Dubai Police reiterated the importance of verifying identities before sharing sensitive information. ICA/Expat Media
