In absentia, the Dubai Criminal Court sentenced a man to jail, followed by deportation on the allegation of murdering a friend, while acquitting another on the same charge. The investigation began in January of last year when the Dubai Police operations room received a report of a dead body discovered in a desert area of Ras Al Khor, Dubai. “An investigation team was able, through the search and intensified investigation and with the help of surveillance cameras, to identify the two suspects in the case, and arrest one of them,” a cop testified. The first accused denied the crime, stating that the second accused, still at large, had a suspicious relationship with the victim. “On the day of the incident, I was with them in a desert area in the Ras Al Khor, where we drank, before a brawl that took place between the accused and the victim,” the second accused told the Court. “The killer was sick of the victim, because he insulted his mother, so he beat him up with a piece of wood on the head several times, causing critical wounds to him and he died on the spot,” he added.
