Two Arab women have been ordered by a Dubai civil court to pay Dh30,000 to their mother as compensation for assaulting her. The ruling follows an earlier case in the Dubai Criminal Court, where the daughters were convicted of assault and fined Dh1,000 each. Afterward, their mother filed a civil lawsuit seeking damages for the emotional and psychological harm caused. In its ruling, the civil court said the criminal judgment had already established that the assault took place. The court noted that moral harm includes injury to dignity, feelings, and honor, as well as psychological pain, and that calculating damages falls within judicial discretion. After reviewing the evidence, judges ruled the mother suffered both physical and emotional harm from the attack, and ordered her daughters to pay Dh30,000 jointly, along with 5 percent accrued legal interest.
