A Dubai court has ruled that an Asian man must pay Dh90,500 to a watch trading company after being found guilty of selling fake bracelets under the guise of luxury brands. The case, which dates back to January 2024, began when the defendant approached a watch trading company in Dubai’s Naif area, offering three bracelets for a total price of Dh125,000. Believing them to be authentic, the company made the purchase, only to later discover that the items were counterfeit. Upon realization, the company filed a lawsuit in October 2024, seeking damages for financial losses. The court appointed a specialist expert to examine the items, confirming that the bracelets were fake and valued at only Dh34,500. “The technical report was decisive in proving the defendant’s fraudulent activity,” said Dr. Alaa Nasr, the company’s legal representative. “The court found sufficient evidence that the defendant deliberately misled the company.” As a result, the court ordered the defendant to pay the difference between the purchase price and the actual value of the bracelets, amounting to Dh90,500. Legal experts have hailed the ruling as a warning to counterfeit traders. “This judgment reinforces Dubai’s strict stance against commercial fraud,” said attorney Faisal Al Zarooni. ICA/Expat Media
