The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced an African gang of three to life in prison, to be followed by deportation, after convicting them of drug trafficking and possession. This ruling comes as Dubai Police continue their crackdown on drug-related crimes to ensure the city’s safety. The defendants were apprehended following an undercover sting operation by Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department. Police had received intelligence about the gang’s activities in Al Baraha, prompting authorities to set up a controlled buy operation, during which one of the suspects agreed to sell drugs for Dh500. During the sting operation, the suspects were caught with 14 bags of narcotics prepared for sale, which forensic tests later confirmed contained a controlled herbal substance. During questioning, one suspect admitted to acting as a broker for the operation, receiving a monthly salary to facilitate drug transactions. The remaining suspects confessed to trafficking activities, although they were unaware of the buyer’s true identity as a police informant. ICA/Expat Media
